Bob Hamilton on the issues…

I’m tired of empty words from career politicians who never change anything for the good of the people. I’ve never held office, and I never planned to. But if we are going to change Washington, real people have to step up and challenge the Washington insiders. As I say, if you want to drain the swamp- hire a plumber.

The career politicians and Washington insiders have rigged the system to the benefit of political elites and the politically connected. As your US Senator, I would work to increase opportunities, prosperity and safety for you and your family. I’ll work to end the revolving door of politicians, lobbyists, and government contractors.

I’ll be a citizen legislator, looking out for you. Help me show the door to the career politicians – from both parties. I’m a dad, a husband and a businessman with world experience who will always put Kansas first.

I am 100% pro-life because life begins at conception. I oppose taxpayer funds being used for abortion or subsidizing organizations that commit abortions.

Donald Trump has championed life as our President, from being the first President in history to attend the annual March for Life to working with the US Senate to confirm a historic number of judicial nominees to the federal bench including two Supreme Court justices, and representing Kansas in the US Senate I will support him every step of the way.

I am an avid hunter. Basically, if it moves, I hunt it.  I am also a proud NRA member. But more importantly I am a staunch supporter of your Second Amendment rights.

The language of the Second Amendment is plain clear: “A well regulated Militia, being necessary to the security of a free State, the right of the people to keep and bear Arms, shall not be infringed.”

When the left clamors for gun control– it really is really about control. One of the fundamental differences we have with the progressive, or socialist, left is that they want to allow more government control in the lives of American citizens. And we want the freedoms afforded to us in the Constitution. As it relates to the 2nd Amendment, they want to make the right to bear arms about just the arms- but we know it’s about our rights.

I oppose any effort to restrict the rights of law-abiding citizens. I will fight to protect your rights, your freedom and your guns.

The first amendment to the Constitution begins, “Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof …”

Religious freedom is more than the right to worship at church, it means you have the right to be true to your faith and beliefs and that you do not have to conform to culture or government.

Religious freedom is your right to speak, live, and act according to your faith. It also protects your ability to be true to your faith tradition at work, at school, and in your community.

President Trump has put religious freedom at the forefront, not just in America, but internationally. From the conscience protection rule he issues for healthcare providers in the US to calling on foreign leaders at the U.N. to end persecution of people for practicing their faith, President Trump has promoted religious freedom at every turn.

Religious freedom is one of the critical issues of our time, and it is an issue I will champion.

I oppose amnesty and I oppose taxpayer money being used to give benefits to illegal aliens. We must act quickly to secure our border and always enforce the rule of law.

I will work with the President and Republicans to secure the border, reform our legal immigration system, and uphold the rule of law.
For too long we have witnessed the devastating effects of an unsecure border, endangering the lives not only of our citizens and also of those who enter illegally. Obama’s policies and flagrantly encouraged illegal immigration. People were emboldened to break our laws and pour into our country. His policies only encouraged the drug cartels and human traffickers. American citizens and legal immigrants simply deserve a better system.

The verdict is in and Obamacare is a failure. It has failed Kansas families and businesses. Premiums are up, families lost access to doctors they trust, and options for insurance disappeared. We need to start from the drawing board.

I oppose government run healthcare. The creep of socialism in the Democrat Party is most evident in their support for Medicare for all. This policy is presented as though it will ensure healthcare for all Americans- but the reality is it will result in banning private insurance, taking away choices about healthcare providers, and a decrease in the overall quality of care. We need to look no further for this evidence than Canada, where government rationing of healthcare causes long waiting lists, outdated drugs, equipment and medical professional shortages, and a tax burden that is about a third higher than the US driven largely by Healthcare costs. In addition, Canadian citizens still pay roughly the same in out-of-pocket costs for healthcare.

I support common sense, free-market ideas that will reduce costs and increase access to care.

More than half of businesses said the cost of health care crowds out other priorities, including expansion and creation of new jobs, according to the US Chamber of Commerce. Congress needs to provide more options and tools for small businesses to help their employees have access to affordable, reliable healthcare for their families.

As a business owner, I know with certainty that government cannot drive our economy, prosperity for families create jobs.

That’s why it is so important that President Trump has kept his promises and delivered on promises to cut red tape and lower taxes. We have seen a historic package of tax cuts and reforms resulting in the lowest top marginal tax rate in more than 80 years for small businesses. That means more jobs, more investments, and higher wages for workers. We’ve also seen sustained economic growth, the highest ever recorded level of median household income, and close to 4 million Americans lifted off food stamps. Those are real results for real people.

With better trade deals, a record number of regulations eliminated and the Pledge to America’s workers resulting in employers committing to train more than 4 million people in vocational education –this economy will continue to work for everyday Kansans.

As your Senator, I will support and the defend these economic policies because now is the time to double down on small business job creators and our free market economy.
